Celebrate the diverse spirit of our nation at the Alexandria Choral Society’s concert, American Voices, on Saturday, March 8th with performances at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. In collaboration with the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association, this powerful program reflects on what it means to be American in the 21st century, just as the country approaches its 250th anniversary.

The concert opens with Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari, honoring the indigenous voices and stories that predate the founding of the nation. Leonard Bernstein’s "Symphonic Dances” from West Side Story brings the energy and complexity of urban America to life, echoing the hopes and struggles of immigrant communities in pursuit of the American dream.

Jake Runestad’s epic Earth Symphony expands our vision beyond national borders to embrace our shared responsibility as global citizens. In an era of climate change and environmental awareness, this contemporary work challenges us to consider America's role in stewarding our Mother Earth. The program concludes with Bernstein’s "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide, a profound meditation on hope, resilience, and the simple act of tending to what we can control. As we face the complexities of modern America, this piece reminds us that progress comes not from grand gestures alone, but from the daily work of cultivating understanding, compassion, and community.

Join us for a profound musical reflection on the past, present, and future of the American story, told through the voices that continue to shape it.

Tickets are $45/adult, $5/18-and-under
