Celebrate the joy of movement and the resilience of the human spirit at the Alexandria Choral Society’s concert I Hope You Dance in May 2026. This uplifting program, which pulses with rhythms that span continents and cultures, invites you to embrace celebration even in uncertain times—because when life challenges us, we still dance.
The concert opens with Diana V. Saez’s Temporal, a striking work that captures the rhythm of time through rich, sophisticated harmonies. Oscar Escalada’s passionate Libertango transports us to the streets of Buenos Aires, where tango was born.
Jennifer Lucy Cook's Lo Dello: the dance explores movement as a language of the soul, while Z. Randall Stroope's Dance For Love reminds us that our most profound celebrations are always acts of love—for each other, for life itself, for the moments that make us feel most alive.
The evening culminates with The Wanting Memories Project, a powerful tribute to Ysaye Barnwell, founding member of Sweet Honey in the Rock. Her music transforms communities, turning singing into activism and harmony into healing, ultimately making community through song.
Join us for an evening that honors the universal human impulse to move, to celebrate, to find rhythm in chaos, and to dance in everyday life.

As a non-profit performing arts organization, ACS strongly believes that financial capacity should never be a barrier to experiencing quality choral programming. That’s why we have proudly adopted a PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN pricing model for this concert.

Our suggested price for each seat is $30 (all seats are General Admission), but we invite you to pay the amount that is affordable for you - whether that be more or less. When our patrons pay whatever they can, it allows us to bring our music to more people, while remaining financially healthy.
