Dreamweaver: a Festival of Wonder​

On October 15, 2026 the American Contemporary Classical Orchestra's season opens with one of the most breathtaking works written for orchestra and chorus in recent decades: Dreamweaver by acclaimed Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. Joining ACCO for this unforgettable performance will be the outstanding Pro Coro of the Alexandria Choral Society and the renowned soprano Kelly Curtin.

Based on portions of the medieval Norwegian folk poem "Draumkvedet," Dreamweaver tells the story of a man who falls asleep for thirteen days and journeys through a series of beautiful, terrifying, and ultimately redemptive visions. Echoing themes found in Dante's "Divine Comedy," the work explores self-discovery, mortality, and hope through soaring melodies, luminous harmonies, ingenious musical storytelling, and breathtaking orchestral colors. It is a spectacular example of contemporary orchestral and choral writing at its finest.

The evening will also feature the world premiere of a new work by David Ibbett, Composer-in-Residence for the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, alongside a new composition by ACCO's 2026/2027 Composer-in-Residence, David Winkler.
