Thank you for participating!

We are excited to announce a unique, “crowd-sourced” commission by local composer Jonathan Kolm is entitled Refuge. Please join us in our 2021-2022 season to hear the premier of this composition.

The Alexandria Choral Society will premiere this work alongside the winners of our 2020 Sing-Off Grant Program, T.C. Williams High School Choir, at our to-be-scheduled social justice-themed program. Over the past several months, our singers and patrons have had the opportunity to vote on the text for each of the five movements of this piece, and participate in live discussions with the composer to make real-time changes to the composition. Check out the above video to hear composer Jonathan Kolm and ACS Artistic Director Brian Isaac discuss the project.

Click the movements below to learn more about the process and the winning texts:

Movement One | Movement Two | Movement Three | Movement Four | Movement Five

We are looking forward to presenting this one-of-a-kind piece, and we hope you will cast your votes and join us on this journey!

Please consider supporting this commission and future programming by supporting ACS.
